This species occurs in a wide variety of habitat types, including the open ocean, brackish waters, and the freshwater habitat of rivers. In Australia it can be found in harbors and estuaries around piers. Its ability to survive in a wide range of salinities makes it a model organism in the study of salinity tolerance. Juveniles are especially tolerant to salinity changes, easily maintaining homeostasis in variable environments such as estuaries. Although the silver moony displays territorial behavior, the species can be kept in saltwater aquaria and is easy to rear in captivity. It can remain solitary or form schools. It is a detritivore and planktivore.

This species can be found in the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean. This species can be easily recognised by two bright orange forward-hooked spines on the caudal peduncle (the tail base), its orange lips and black face mask. The body is brownish-grey with yellow nape and there is a broad black band on the dorsal fin. It reaches about 15" in length.  It can be found on coral reefs, often in pairs. This particular fish is eating caulerpa prolifera, some flake food, some Hikari pellets, and goes for our pods. It nibbles on our gracilaria as well.

Panther Grouper

Currently unavailable

Notify when available
$44.99

The Pather grouper is a medium-sized fish which grows up to 28 in. Its body is compressed laterally and is relatively high. This stocky and strange visual effect is accented by its concave profile and its elongated snout which gives it a humpbacked appearance. The young have a white background with round black spots and are continuously swimming head down. The adults have a body colouration with variances of grey and beige with darker blotches variable in size on the body. Small black spots cover the whole body. Distribution and habitat It is widely distributed throughout the tropical waters of the central Indo-West Pacific region. The Panther grouper lives in clear waters from lagoons and seaward reefs with a preference for dead or silty areas. They are found in a range of depth from 6.6 to 131.2 ft. In 2012, a single individual was speared in the waters off South Florida, raising fears that it could become invasive, similar to the lionfish. The diet of this grouper is based on small fishes and crustaceans. Like the members of its family, the Panther grouper is demersal, solitary (except during mating periods), defends a territory, and is an ambush predator. Its feeding activity is maximal at sunrise and/or at sunset. This species is a protogynous hermaphrodite; in other words, all individuals are born female, with the ability to transform to males as they grow older. Typically, only the most dominant, mature females undergo this transformation in the absence of a dominant male.

True Percula Clown Fish

Perculas or True Perculas are some of the most classic and popular clownfish species we offer. These docile fish are close relatives of the False Percula (A. ocellaris), and the two species can be easily confused. Both species have orange bodies with three white stripes. In the Percula, the black margin around the white stripes is thick while in the False Percula, the black margin is very thin or absent. They also have a different number of spiny rays in the dorsal fin. These two species do not overlap in their natural distribution. A. percula is found only in Melanesia and Northern Australia. Mature specimens typically develop a striking black coloration between stripes. Perculas will typically spawn only about once a month with 300 to 600 eggs per spawn.

Picasso Clown Fish

ORA Picassos are a highly sought after variant of the Percula Clownfish.  The Picasso variant occurs naturally in the Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea however they are exceptionally rare. ORA’s strain of Picassos originated in 2004 from a single wild male from the Solomon Islands, which we paired with a typical Onyx female. In subsequent years we have added additional wild collected Picassos into our breeding program.  Most Picasso clowns in the industry can be traced back to ORA’s breeding program. These beautiful fish exhibit extra white mainly on their center stripe. Each individual fish is unique and hand-selected by our experienced graders. These fish are graded on the amount of white present, the oddness of the striping, and the rarity of the markings. Our fish may be radically marked on one side and merely have an extra blob of white on the other.

The Platinum Percula is a magnificent white variation of the Percula Clownfish. ORA developed the Platinum Percula through years of selectively breeding our famous Picasso Clownfish. These striking fish do not exhibit any of the original striping characteristic of the species, they are typically continuously white from head to tail. As Platinums mature, they will develop beautiful black fins that really stand out against the white body and orange face. ORA also breeds two other solid-colored cousins of the Platinum Percula – the completely orange Naked Ocellaris and the all black Midnight Clownfish.

The Black Ice Snowflake (Amphiprion ocellaris) is a cross between a Black Ocellaris and a Snowflake. These beautiful fish were the preliminary results of our efforts to produce a Black Ocellaris with Snowflake patterns. This first generation still exhibits the yellow orange coloration of the normal Snowflake however it has ultra intense black markings around the irregular white bars.

Premium Snowflake Ocellaris Clownfish

Currently unavailable

Notify when available
$42.99

ORA Premium Snowflakes are an especially striking form of A. ocellaris. They have an impressive amount of irregular white markings on the body. The edges of the white coloration will typically be jagged and angular. These elegant fish are carefully selected by our experienced graders and are available in extremely limited quantities. Just as their name implies – no two are alike. Often, as they mature, the edges of their white markings will develop a delicate baby blue hue worthy of their elite status. This popular clownfish was originally produced by Tropical Marine Centre in the UK around 1999. At that time it was considered an undesirable trait. TMC had two, completely normal looking pairs of Ocellaris that produced two or three snowflakes once every couple of spawns. These pairs are still alive and reproducing today but they no longer produce Snowflakes. Only around 100 of these fish were ever exported to the United States making F1 Broodstock direct from TMC extremely rare. ORA obtained it’s first pair of F1 Snowflakes in 2005 and we have been working on developing a hardier and more colorful strain of this glorious clownfish ever since.

This Queen Angel is in very good health. It was purchased several months ago to be placed in a clients aquarium. The client decided not to keep this gorgeous fish. We had since adopted it and have taken excellent care of it for nearly 6 months. It's time it found a larger aquarium and an equally loving home.  It eats lots of macro algae Hikari pellets and even flake foods. It's a very personable fish.
