Sheepshead Minnow

Currently unavailable

Notify when available
$8.99

The sheepshead minnow is commonly kept as an aquarium fish. It is easy to breed in captivity and is used as a forage fish in mariculture. The sheepshead minnow is an omnivore, eating both animal and vegetable matter. Its diet mainly consists of detritus, microalgae, crustacean larvae and other small invertebrates. It is aggressive and will attack fish larger than itself, slashing its prey with its sharp teeth and devouring it when it is subdued. Breeding takes place in shallow water between April and September, the males competing fiercely for the females. A few eggs are spawned at a time, and these are fertilized by the males which grasp the females with their fins. The eggs clump together and sink to the seabed, connected by sticky threads. They hatch after five or six days. During the winter, this fish burrows into the soft substrate and remains dormant.

Singapore Angel

Currently unavailable

Notify when available
$56.99

The Vermiculated Angelfish Chaetodontoplus mesoleucus is an alluring beauty. It's small in stature but rich in color and form, often mistaken for a Butterflyfish because of its appearance. This is a modest sized angel, reaching only 7 inches in length, but very striking with its blue lips, yellow face, and a distinctive vertical bar running through the eye. The bi-colored body starts out in triangular white patch behind the head fading into a larger black area, accented with a yellow speckled patterning throughout. The name "vermiculated" refers to this angelfish’s patterning of wavy or winding lines. It is also known as the Vermiculate Angelfish, Singapore Angelfish. Once adjusted to captive life this fish makes a great addition to the intermediate aquarists tank. An aquarist who will not compromise the needs of this moderately difficult fish can be successful in keeping it.

Snow Storm Ocellaris

Currently unavailable

$28.99

ORA Snow Storms are Amphiprion ocellaris that inherited copies of both the Storm and Snowflake pattern genes. The fish are distinct from other white varieties of clownfish in that each fin is primarily black and their facial pigment is restricted to the lips and their pronounced, black eyes. These fish are also adorned with icy blue hues along the edges of their black fins and lips. With their crisp white color, flashy fins and spooky faces, these fish have quickly become a favorite at our hatchery. ORA Snow Storms were first created by crossing a Black Storm male to a female Black Snowflake. Because the Snow Storm phenotype occurs in fish that inherited two dominant pattern mutations, specifically Snowflake and Storm, they can produce Snowflakes, Storms and Snow Storm offspring.

Feeding by the dragonet occurs throughout the day, including the intervals between courtships and spawning. The fish feeds entirely on benthic sources, primarily copepods, amphipods, and other small invertebrates living on blades of sea grass. Among dragonet species, amphipods are the most plentiful prey during the spring and winter months. The fish also supplement their diets with polychaetes, bivalves, and gastropods in these periods. During the summer, the dragonets feed primarily on amphipods. Finally, in the fall, the two species predominantly consume polychaetes, amphipods, and gastropods, with polychaetes contributing the highest amount. In defense against its predators, the dragonet rapidly buries itself under the sand at the bottom of the ocean so that only its eyes remain visible. Many species of the fish also are capable of producing and secreting foul-tasting and -smelling substances that may ward off any potential predators.

Tank Raised Ocellaris Clownfish

Clownfish or anemonefish are fishes that, in the wild, form symbiotic mutualisms with sea anemones and are unaffected by the stinging tentacles of the host anemone, see Amphiprioninae Symbiosis and mutualism. The sea anemone protects the clownfish from predators, as well as providing food through the scraps left from the anemone's meals and occasional dead anemone tentacles. In return, the clownfish defends the anemone from its predators, and parasites. Clownfish are small-sized, 3.9–7.1 in, and depending on species, they are overall yellow, orange, or a reddish or blackish color, and many show white bars or patches. Within species there may be color variations, most commonly according to distribution, but also based on sex, age and host anemone. Clownfish are found in warmer waters of the Indian and Pacific oceans and the Red Sea in sheltered reefs or in shallow lagoons. In a group of clownfish, there is a strict dominance hierarchy. The largest and most aggressive fish is female and is found at the top. Only two clownfish, a male and a female, in a group reproduce through external fertilization. Clownfish are sequential hermaphrodites, meaning that they develop into males first, and when they mature, they become females.

Wyoming White Ocellaris Clown

The Wyoming White is a snowy white variety of Amphiprion ocellaris. They are the result of breeding two Gladiator clownfish together. Wyoming Whites are similar in appearance to the Platinum variety of A. percula, which is the result of breeding two Picasso clownfish together. The Wyoming White differs from the Platinum in that it will have a pigmented iris, darker red coloration on the face and fins and typically lacks pigment in the dorsal fin. If you have a very good eye, you can also see that Wyoming Whites have a total of 11 dorsal spines compared to the Platinum’s 10. ORA’s Wyoming Whites are descendants of our Gladiator production which started with one fish 10 years ago. The Gladiator and Wyoming White names were both coined by Bill Addison from C-Quest in Puerto Rico. Prior to owning C-Quest Bill owned Uranium and Wyoming White Marble mines!

Extreme Misbar Ocellaris Clownfish

The Extreme Misbar Ocellaris has even less white than the typical Misbar making this fish quite rare. Sometimes only having a head bar or a tail dot, some of the patterns on these fish are truly awesome and outrageous. They’re considered to be some of the most attractive and unique clownfish we offer. Extreme Misbar patterns are the least commonly observed stripe mutation, and for that reason are highly desirable but limited in quantity.
